Led by Gerald Gresham Cooke we will explore the Stag Park in the grounds of Petworth Park.
From Petworth Park we will aim for Shepherds Lodge gate (normally closed) and through into Stag Park (Lord Egremont’s private park and woods). We will continue to Stag Park Farm which was established by the 3rd Earl Egremont in the late 1700’s as a model farm. The Georgian farm buildings are set in a quintessential English countryside.
We hope that the farmer, Scott Busby will be happy to tell us about his Stag Farm Farm. John Giffin, the Farm Manager, will also make himself available and will be able to talk more widely about the history of Stag Park farming and especially of the Sussex Cattle herd.
Meet: Petworth Park, NORTH Car Park – NOT the House Car Park. Bring a National Trust card or cash (£3) for Parking.
By car :Take A283 (London Road) northwards out of Petworth towards Northchapel/Guildford and 0.8 miles on left is Petworth Park North Car Park (not the Petworth House car park). Grid. Ref. SU966 238. Nearest Post Code GU28 9LS. Not on Bus route.
