This illustrated talk will be about the story of the Pleasure Ground Garden at Petworth House, its’ history and how the National Trust bring this to life for visitors through gardening.

The Pleasure Grounds Garden at Petworth House was designed by Lancelot “Capability” Brown during the 18th Century.  Brown removed the formal features that had previously existed here and introduced colourful informal planting, winding paths and impressive monuments with views over the surrounding landscape.

The speaker, Martyn Burkinshaw, has worked at Petworth House and Park for the National Trust for over a decade as Gardens and Outdoors Manager, a cross between a Head Gardener and Head Ranger, covering the 700 acre Deer Park and 40 acre Pleasure Ground Garden.

During his time at Petworth he has overseen restoration works and major projects across the designed landscape of the Park and Garden, ranging from border designs to historic building restorations, reservoirs and ponds to veteran tree management.
