FREE  ARCHAEOLOGY WALK IN PETWORTH PARK  FRI 12th July 2.00 p.m.

The “regular” archaeology walk in the Park takes three hours and involves some steep climbs. This walk will take approx one hour with a couple of uphill stretches.  We will nevertheless see and hear about some of the main discoveries made during the 2012 to 2015 archaeology project “ Petworth Park’s Hidden Past “.

These will include the “lost” north wing of the 12th century Petworth House,  the removal of grand stables and formal gardens, the removal of parts of Petworth and Tillington villages and the relocation of two main roads, ending with a Tudor surprise and long defunct industries.

Everyone, members and non members of the Society  welcome including dogs, kept on a short lead. It will be fun, informative and an opportunity to make new friends!

There is no charge as we will not be going into the National Trust pay area. There is however a limit on numbers, so if you would like to join please book  online –  go to https://Petworthsociety.co.uk –  or register your interest by emailing Bev Sewell at  Info@Petworth Society.co.uk.

We will meet at the bottom end of the Cow Yard at Petworth House – 1.45 for 2.00 o’clock, Friday 12th July.  Do NOT attempt to go to the Church Lodge entrance to Petworth House.

Entrance to the Cow Yard is from North Street. The entrance to the Cow Yard, through open gates,  is 75 yards down North Street from St Mary’s Parish Church.
