GUIDED TOUR OF COWDRAY PARK RUINS, MIDHURST

Saturday 11th of July 3.00 p.m.

The Cowdray Heritage Ruins are one of England’s most important early Tudor houses, a house known to have been visited by both King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I.

In September 1793, whilst undergoing repairs and refurbishments for the impending marriage of the 8th Viscount Montague, a devastating fire took hold and most of the property was destroyed. The Kitchen Tower is the only part of the mansion to remain intact.

Since 1793 it has remained largely untouched however the 1st Viscount Cowdray commissioned a restoration project between 1909-1914, which has since continued, not to rebuild but to preserve the ruins

The Property is closed for open visits, however, it is open for pre booked hour long guided tours of the ruins, kitchen which is considered one of the finest and largest surviving examples of a Tudor kitchen in England, second only to Hampton Court Palace and the Tudor Room.

Please park in the large North (North Street) Car Park Midhurst (fee payable) and then make your way by foot  along the causeway,  as you would have in the 1500’s, to the visitor centre by the ruins There is  café which will be open for hot/cold drinks and light refreshments before the tour starts.
