The Petworth Society AGM on 14th May
The most important Agenda item will be to review the 50 year old constitution, or as it was then named The Articles of Association. The document is somewhat outdated eg. it does not mention our charitable status or Trustees.
There is no intention of changing the ethos of the Society – merely to bring it up to date and legalise it.
Hard copies of the new and old documents will be available at the meeting and also in the New Street display cabinet. Digital versions are also available from mike@themulcahys.org or on the website.
Following the formal business at the AGM, committee member Ian Yonge will give an illustrated talk on oddities, small details and stories behind some of the collection at Petworth House of which the passing visitor will be unaware.
Ians talk will include:
- * Grinling Gibbons and his pea pods
- * Why the statue of Prometheus and Pandora remains unfinished
- * The restored painting with a man changed into a woman
- * Gainsborough and broccoli
- * The Kings picture restorer and a ruined Turner
- * King Charles 1st portrait with missing head
- * The revealing x-ray of a Venus
- * And lots more!
